Dean's Circle Study Abroad Scholarship

The College of Biological Sciences in partnership with UC Davis Study Abroad has developed summer course options in Ireland.

BIS2A: University of Cork
BIS2B: University of Dublin

Eligibility:

  • Enrolled major in the College of Biological Sciences
  • Financial need (we will check with financial aid after you apply)
  • Good academic standing (no minimum GPA requirement)
  • Willingness to document your experience while studying abroad
  • While not a requirement, preference will be given to those with no prior international travel experience
  • MUST be able to attend Study Abroad BIS2A or BIS2B during the summer of 2019

Application Process:

Complete the online application by November 1, 2018
  • Complete a 300-word essay question
  • A letter of recommendation (from a professor or current/former employer)

Selection Process Timeline:

  • November 1, 2018: Deadline to submit application
  • November 1 – 14: All applications completed by the deadline will be evaluated by the Selection committee to select the top (3-5) finalists of faculty, Dean’s office staff, study abroad office staff and a student who previously studied in Ireland.
  • On or before November 15th, top (3-5) finalists will be notified and invited to be interviewed by the selection committee.
  • November 20 (approximately): The top finalists will interview with the selection committee.
  • December 15th: The scholarship awardee will be notified. A runner up will be identified in case the awardee is unable to participate in the program.
  • Jan 7th (or first day of classes): Deadline for awardee to accept the award
  • Mid-January: The awardee enrolls at study abroad for the summer 2019 course
  • TBD: Pre- and post-program lunch with the Dean and selected guests

Dean's Circle Study Abroad Scholarship

Recognizing that study abroad can be a life-changing experience, Dean Mark Winey of the College of Biological Sciences with the support of donors to the CBS Dean’s Circle is excited to offer a substantial scholarship to a CBS student to participate in one of these courses in Ireland.

What the scholarship offers:

  • All UC Davis tuition and fees for the course you choose in Ireland along with guaranteed seat in the course
  • All travel expenses, included fees for acquiring any travel documents such as a passport and visa
  • Allowance for “on-the-ground” expenses while in Ireland (describe ‘on the ground’ expenses)
  • Stipend to offset some of the lost income earned through a summer job
